Iron Man

Training for your first Ironman Triathlon

The ironman triathlon is one of those triathlon events that is well known and attracts a lot of attention. There have been a considerable number of participants in this event for a long time due to its popularity and challenging nature. As such, there are many different training materials available for you to use when you are preparing for this event. One of the most common progressions for runners as they try to get their careers on track is to start with the sprint triathlon, then attempt the Olympic distance triathlon, followed by the half ironman triathlon and then finally they can give their best shot at the Ironman triathlon. Whichever way you choose to train for your triathlon, you will need to make sure that you are on the right path to achieve your Ironman goal.

The Decision

When you have decided to take part in this race, you have to understand that it will take an incredible amount of dedication and endurance to complete. There is no room for quitting or excuses. You should have trained for as a proper amount of time so that you are able to compete and get to the finish line of the race. Remember that in most of these races, the feeling and the satisfaction of being able to complete the race is a victory in and of itself. For you to have a chance at winning, you must go through a considerable amount of training at the highest level possible. At the same time, you also have to take note of the fact that when you are training for this competition, complete dedication is necessary for success.

You must be incredibly driven to achieve the successful training necessary to compete in this race. Training has to be one of the toughest parts of taking part of the triathlon, but you should not avoid it or cut it short. You must have the desire to complete this race. No matter what it takes, you will always have to keep in mind the vision of you being at the finish line. This will be the ultimate reward of all of your hard work and perseverance.

Train for Success

A lot of people who participate in the ironman challenge never put in the training hours necessary for success. There are some who just show up at the starting line because they believe in their ability to compete on all three fronts and that they can get to the finish line. Although this may work out for a very small number of people, it is not recommended. So many things can happen when you are in a race for which you are not prepared. It is much better to train properly so that you are aware of the challenges and how best to face them.

Dedication

If you have dedicated that you will spend close to a year to prepare for your Ironman challenge, there are some tips that you should take into consideration. One element that you need as you get ready for this challenge is plenty of rest. You cannot expect to come close to succeeding in this competition if you cannot get an appropriate amount of rest. You should always find time to rest at least 2-3 days every week as you continue your training. This is particularly important during the earlier months of your training. Rest is so important because your body requires it and your muscles need it to replicate and replenish the worn out muscles. Of course, you will also need to make sure that you eat well and keep a healthy diet.

Positive Thinking

One of the most important things about the marathon or the Ironman challenge is to make sure that you are thinking positively at all times. It is a really hard challenge to be a part of, but you should make sure that you approach it with a positive mind set to give you a better chance of making it to the end.

Strengthening your mind to do something that you really want to achieve can be challenging. There are some simple ways through which you can do this, without even needing to see a shrink or coach.

Your Motivation

The first thing that you really have to do is take a deeper look into what motivates you to get to the gym every other day. Different people have different reasons to participate in the Ironman challenge to serve as their source of enthusiasm to keep on working harder day by day. Think about what drives you to come to the gym and work so hard and you will be able to better appreciate the time that you spend in there.

We all have comfort zones, though some of us might find it hard to admit to that. It is important that you make attempts to go beyond the limits of your comfort zone. You cannot let yourself fall into a rut in your training because you are too comfortable. By getting out of your comfort zone, you will be in a good position to overcome so many challenges that you will face.

Visualize

you cannot underestimate the importance of this. Always visualize your goal for your challenge; what you are working towards and what you intend to achieve when it is all done. It is the one thing that, combined with your motivation, will help you to rise above the challenges that you have and make you a more successful person. This also allows you to stay focused, perfect your art and continue your hard work.

Never lose focus, especially when things get tough. You may find that after putting extra hours in to the gym that you are not seeing the progress that you would like to see. In challenging times, it’s important not to lose that focus. Keep a clear mind and, if possible, speak to your trainer or a friend about it so that you have someone who is looking out for you.
